Type Locality and Naming
South Lhasa Block - Xigaze forearc Basin. The Xigaze Group was designated by Li Pu et al in 1955. The section for the designation is in the Ngamring County (Aburenzong)- Ringbung County (Renmuzong) of Xizang.
Lithology and Thickness
The group is composed of the upward succession of the Qiabulin Fm, Sangzugang Fm, Angren Fm (Ngamring Fm), Padana Fm and Qubeiya Fm. It is more than 6000 m thick.

The top of the Group marked by gray and purple red silty shale lies conformably under the Paleogene Cuojiangding Gr as marked by variegated sandy conglomerate.
Regional extent
The group is widespread in the Zhongba County, Ngamring County and Dazuka of Rinbung County.
